Left Eye’s Vision, 2024

Mixed Media | Ink, Acrylic, Watercolor, and Colored Pencil

11 x 14 inches

Description: I named this piece "Left Eye's Vision" in honor of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. In a documentary, she expressed her childhood dream of being free in the jungle with the animals, which inspired me to capture her vision of herself. I incorporated her beliefs in numerology and the universe, as she believed that numbers hold significance and must align perfectly to be received by the universe.

Instead of emphasizing her signature patch, eyebrow piercing, or tattoos, I aimed to showcase her natural beauty and focus on the essence of "Just Lisa." Lisa was a talented musician, artist, and poet, and she served as the visual inspiration for TLC. Despite her untimely passing, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' legacy lives on through her music and captivating voice. Her unique look and style continue to inspire artists, including myself, and I sought to capture her vision, beliefs, and enduring legacy in this piece.

This project was enjoyable because it signifies her first collaboration and FREEMIX with the talented Jovan Landry for TLC's "No Scrubs". Waterfalls, 2024

Music | Cover Song

Description: This is a cappella cover of "Waterfalls" as a tribute to Left Eye, whose raps have been a vital part of my life since the early '90s. Left Eye’s words have shaped me emotionally and spiritually, guiding me through the ups and downs of life. There aren't many days that go by where I don’t find myself rapping her lyrics, feeling that familiar comfort and inspiration. Her verses have been more than just music to me they’ve been a source of strength, a reminder to stay true to myself, and a way to connect with my inner emotions.

Sharing this cover is my way of honoring her legacy and expressing the deep love and respect I have for her artistry. It’s incredible how someone’s words can have such a lasting impact, and Left Eye’s music continues to resonate with me profoundly. This performance is my way of giving back, of showing that her influence is still very much alive in my heart. I hope to capture even a fraction of the spirit and energy that she brought to her music and to keep her memory alive through my own voice.
